Multicultural by definition, Flamenco evolved from Moorish, Jewish, Spanish, and Gypsy communities living side by side for centuries in the southern region of Spain called Andalucia. Rhythms from Northern Africa and South America continue to influence this diverse art form today.

Flamenco is only 150 to 200 years old. Prior to that, traditional Andalucian dance such as Zambra Mora was much more Arabic in style, and so was the music.

In Flamenco, zambra is a "palo" or genre that has its origins in Granada which is located in the region of Andalusia it was popularized in the 1940’s, however, it dates way back, probably from when Granada was governed by the moors, in fact the word zambra is derived from a Moorish term: zambr wich means noise, also zamara: musicians zamir: musician, zambra refers to gypsy parties as well. Zambra is divided into 3 different sections  danced to a sfic rhythm and melody, each section represents 3 different parts of the gypsies wedding traditions in one of them the dancer mimics the grooms expressing his sorrow for taking away the bride from her parents. Today zambra is very commercialized in the caves area of Granada because is a turists atraction for its oriental aspect.

History:
Gypsy dance had started back in the days when the Moors came over from the  Arab, East Asia. They settled in Spain and brought danse de oriental, and Hungarians brought Romany dance styles to Europe. I have trained and studied the culture ,styles and  technique  of the gypsy dance since I was a young girl  . My grandmother was a Flamenco dancer, my mother a Spanish/oriental dancer... There are over 18 variations of flamenco throughout Espana. I am a true Gitana de Espana at heart with a touch of my Asian ancestry. It is  only natural for me to develop my love for this dance form.  My dance shows consist of traditional Spanish and/or Gypsy/Asian/Middle Eastern  forms .

Background
I have studied, trained, in classic Spanish and flamenco dance with several professional instructors from Madrid. I started Flamenco dance at the tender age of 3 surrounded by a mother/Grandmother who danced. I would be surrounded by "Gitana Espana" (Spanish Gypsy) music. I then took Ballet and tap dace. But in my teens I went to Princeton Ballet to train under the guidance of Anita Conception. In my twenties I continued with her classes at Ballet De Hispanico. Then I went onto train at Fazils, Lotus Studios, , DJonibas, and other studios throughout the late 80's - to mid 90's with various of teachers. Which include, Jose Molinas Jorge Navarro, Andrea Del Conte, Jode "La Chispa" Romano.

I performed Flamenco and many other styles of Latin dance around NYC, PR and Miami at venues and restaurants. Solo and with Rumba, Salsa and Samba bands. Among them were Raquel Lima(Brazil), Carman Carrasco ( Argentina) and others in the NYC Latin/Rumba scene..

I have focused my last 7 years of Middle Eastern dance but I still practice and have recently started performing Flamenco again. I am diligent with my studies and training to keep the Spanish dance alive ! As I am passionate about my background in Spanish dance.
